Solar panels (or modules) are gaining more and more popularity. In recent decades, they are beginning to be actively used not only for cottages or farms but also for uninterrupted power supply in the industry. The electric current we need, into which safe and environmentally friendly solar panels convert the energy of the sun, can be used for everyday needs.

There is a lot of information onto the Internet about the modules, but almost all solar power generator reviews cannot give a clear answer about the problem of a blackout. So let’s go in-depth into this issue.

Does solar power work during a blackout?

The difference in the work of the modules is caused not only the season of the year but also the time of day. Before buying batteries, it is worth to study the questions: how do batteries that catch energy from the sun and work when there is no sun, and how effective are they in winter?

It is known that photovoltaic cells do not use the heat of the sun itself, they are using the sunlight. Therefore, despite the fact that the winter day is shorter, even at this time of the year, they can work quite well, especially if the day is not too cloudy, but only in the daytime. At night, when the sun does not shine, photovoltaic cells do not produce energy.

Still, even though as long as we do not have the opportunity to use solar power during blackout in full force, scientists are not abandoning attempts to improve the system. Thus, scientists at Harvard and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology are developing a technology for producing cheap solar energy that can work even after sunset.

The idea is based on the fact that the panels will be able to transform not only direct sunlight but also other waves – rays that were produced at night by buildings, earth, roads and platforms heated by the sun during the day. The duration of the daylight hours will not be so important, and the photovoltaic cells will be able to continue their work even during solar panels power outage.

And although it’s not yet possible to talk about mass production of such batteries, Maybe it will be possible to use an improved version of such batteries much later. Without a doubt, the new development can be widely used in various fields, popularizing the sun’s energy as a free alternative to natural gas and coal.
